
No. 4 Duke Improves to 3-0 in the ACC With 5-2 Win Against No. 10 Clemson

Durham, N.C. - No. 4 Duke used a strong start to defeat No. 10 Clemson, 5-2, and improve to 3-0 in conference play and 11-3 overall. The loss drops the Tigers to 2-3 in the ACC and 17-5 on the season.
The Blue Devils swept the three doubles matches. No. 29 Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke won handily at No. 1 with an 8-4 victory over Jarmaine Jenkins and Clement Reix. At No. 2 Stephen Amritraj and Peter Rodrigues clinched the point with an 8-5 win over Sander Koning and Ryan Young. Ned Samuelson and Ludovic Walter completed the sweep. Trailing 7-6 and the Duke pair rallied to win the next three points for the 9-7 victory against Brett Twente and Ian Keeler.
The singles matches were also controlled by Duke as they came out strong to win the first set in five of the six matches. The Blue Devils put three of those matches away in straight sets. No. 5 Walter won his 10th match of the year against a ranked opponent to put Duke on top 4-0, clinching the match. He defeated No. 89 Koning 7-5, 6-2 to improve to 11-2 in the top spot and 21-7 for the season. No. 62 Rodrigues was the first to finish as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win against Jenkins.
Rodrigues has won 12 of his 13 dual matches this season and has compiled a record of 18-7 for the year. Joey Atas earned his fourth victory of the season over a ranked foe when he won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 position against No. 117 Ryan Young. Atas is the fourth Duke player to record double digit victories as he improves to 10-9 overall and is 7-3 in dual matches.
Duke's No. 37 Stokke won his first set against No. 97 Clement Reix 6-2 and led 3-0 in the second set before Reix rallied to win 6-4 and then followed with a 6-2 win in the third set for the victory. Kiril Dimitrov lost his first set, 6-1, to Paul Koenke but stormed back to take the final two sets 6-1, 6-1. Dimitrov is now 9-3 in dual matches and 11-4 overall. At No. 6 Stephen Amritraj won his first set, 6-3, but lost in the second set to Brett Twente, 6-4. Twente went on to win a tiebreaker in the third set 1-0 (10-4) to give the Tigers their second point of the day.
The Blue Devils will begin a stretch of six straight road matches when they head to Richmond, Va. on Wednesday. They will take on the 17th-ranked Rams of Virginia Commonwealth at 2 p.m.
