
No. 27 Florida State Delivers First ACC Loss to No. 4 Duke 4-3 on Sunday

Tallahassee, Fla. - No. 4 Duke suffered its first loss in conference play on Sunday when they traveled to No. 27 Florida State and lost 4-3 after taking an early lead with a win in doubles.
The Blue Devils got off to a good start with wins in two of the three doubles matches. They cruised to victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Stephen Amritraj and Peter Rodrigues won easily in the second slot, 8-2, over Sam Chang and Jonathas Sucupira. Amritraj and Rodrigues are now 5-0 in ACC doubles matches and 8-4 overall. Ned Samuelson and Ludovic Walter also won handily with an 8-1 win against Chris Cloer and Maciek Sykut in the third spot. Samuelson and Walter improve to 4-1 in conference matches and 8-4 overall. The Seminoles took the No. 1 doubles match as the 37th-ranked duo of Ytai Abougzir and Chris Westerhof defeated No. 29 Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke 8-3.
Florida State had a strong start to singles with wins in the first set of five of the six singles. They were able to close out three of those matches with straight set wins. The No. 5 match was the first to finish as Westerhof defeated Kiril Dimitrov 6-3, 6-2 to even the team score at 1-1. The loss was the first ACC setback of the year for Dimitrov as he is now 4-1 in conference matches and 12-5 overall. The Seminoles took the lead in the match when Sucupira upset No. 37 Stokke in the No. 2 slot 6-2, 7-6 (4). The Blue Devils answered with a win in the No. 3 match to make the score tied at 2-2. Duke's Rodrigues, ranked No. 62 in the country, downed Chang in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Rodrigues improved to 14-1 in dual matches, 4-1 in the ACC and 21-7 overall. Florida State would quickly regain the advantage when Cloer defeated Christopher Brown in straight sets at the No. 6 spot 6-2, 7-6 (5). Sykut then clinched the match in the fourth slot for the Seminles with a win in three sets over Atas 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. The Blue Devils added won more point to make the final 4-3. No. 5 Walter earned a three-set victory against No. 65 Abougzir 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Walter is now 4-1 in ACC contests, 12-4 in dual matches and 22-8 on the season. He moves to within one win of Ramsey Smtih for the all-time singles wins record at Duke.
With the loss the Blue Devils fall to 12-5 on the season and 4-1 in the ACC. Florida State improves to 12-9 and 5-2 in conference play.
Duke will return to North Carolina for their fourth straight road match. They will travel to Winston-Salem for an ACC contest with No. 25 Wake Forest on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
