
Ludovic Walter Ties Duke Singles Record in 6-1 Win Over No. 26 Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Ludovic Walter won in straight sets on Wednesday to tie current Duke assistant coach Ramsey Smith for the career singles record at Duke as the sixth-ranked Blue Devils toppled No. 26 Wake Forest 6-1 at Leighton Tennis Stadium on Wednesday.
Walter faced No. 13 Todd Paul in the No. 1 singles match and came away with a 6-2, 7-5 win. It was Walter's 119th career victory matching the mark that Smith set from 1998-2001. Walter is now 23-8 on the season and 13-4 in dual matches. He is also 5-1 in ACC matches. No. 37 Jonathan Stokke also defeated a ranked player when he downed No. 94 Andrew Hamar 6-4, 7-5. Stokke has a team-high 24 wins this season. He is 24-15 overall, 9-8 in dual matches and 4-2 in the ACC. Stephen Amritraj was the third Duke player to win in straight sets. Playing at the No. 6 position, Amritraj picked up his first ACC win of the season, improving to 1-2 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Charles Sartor.
Joey Atas and Peter Rodrigues also picked up singles wins for Duke on Wednesday. Atas improved to 3-2 in conference matches with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win against Brett Ross. Atas is now 8-6 in dual matches and 11-12 on the year. Rodrigues, ranked 70th in the country, won his ninth straight match, defeating Cory Parr in the No. 3 slot 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Rodrigues has only lost once this year in a dual match and is 16-1. He is 5-1 in ACC matches and 22-7 overall.
The Blue Devils started the match off by winning the doubles point. The two ranked pairings for Duke each came through with victories. No. 50 Atas and Stokke upset No. 42 Hamar and Paul at No. 1 with an 8-3 win. Playing for the first time this season as a ranked duo, No. 57 Amritraj and Rodrigues defeated Mariusz Adamski and Parr in the No. 2 match, 8-4.
The Demon Deacons came away with victories in one singles and one doubles match. Adamski earned their only point with a 6-3, 6-0 win over No. 111 Kiril Dimitrov at the No. 5 spot. The doubles team of Ross and Sartor came away with an 8-6 victory against Ned Samuelson and Walter in the third slot.
Duke improves to 13-5 on the year with the win and is now 5-1 in the ACC. Wake Forest drops to 5-2 in the conference and 13-6 overall.
The Blue Devils will finish their six game road stretch this weekend when they head to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Friday for a match with Boston College at 2:30 p.m. They will then travel to College Park, Md. to face Maryland on Sunday at 12 p.m.
