
Walter Breaks Duke Singles Record in 7-0 Rout of Boston College

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Ludovic Walter broke the all-time singles victories record at Duke with a win in straight sets on Friday as No. 6 Duke cruised to a 7-0 rout of Boston College.
Walter, ranked No. 4 in the country, won easily at the No. 1 spot to claim his 120th victory, passing current Blue Devils' assistant coach Ramsey Smith for first on the career list. Walter squared off against the Eagles' Soma Kesthely and won 6-0, 6-2. He is now 6-1 in ACC matches and has a 24-8 record for the season. He is also 14-4 in dual matches.
Duke also swept the other five singles matches on the day. No. 70 Peter Rodrigues played at No. 2 for the first time this season and defeated Jason Sechrist 6-3, 6-1. Rodrigues picked up his 75th career singles win. He has now won 17 of his 18 dual matches, is 6-1 in conference play and is 23-7 overall. Joey Atas moved up one spot to No. 3 and came away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Alex Rastorgouev. Atas is 9-6 in dual matches and 4-2 in the ACC. Stephen Amritraj played at the No. 4 position for the first time this season and won in three sets against Brian Hartness 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). Amritraj is now 2-2 in ACC contests. Ned Samuelson evened his ACC record at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sam Wagner at No. 5. Alex Stone picked up his first singles win of the year in dual action with a 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5) win over Michael Reiser.
The Blue Devils also swept the doubles matches. The 50th ranked duo of Atas and Jonathan Stokke improved to 21-8 on the season with an 8-4 win over Kesthely and Wagner. Amritraj and Rodrigues, ranked No. 57, came away with an 8-1 victory against Rastorgouev and Sechrist. Amritraj and Rodrigues remained undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and are now 10-4 on the year. In the No. 3 match, Samuelson and Walter defeated Hartness and Reiser 8-4 to improve to 5-2 in conference matches and 9-5 in the dual season.
Duke improves to 14-5 on the year and 6-1 in the ACC. They will wrap up their six-game road stretch on Sunday when they face Maryland in College Park, Md. at 12 p.m.
