DURHAM, N.C. - Eleven women and 13 men competed in the 2007 ACC Platform Diving Championships on Saturday at Duke's Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion, as both pool records and Duke school records were set during the competition.
In women's action, Miami's Heather Bounds set a pool record with her mark of 340.50, while teammate Reuben Ross recorded a score of 398.95 in men's action to set a pool record as well.
Freshman Julie Brummond set a Duke school record, notching a score of 185.15 to finish in eighth place overall. On the men's side, sophomore Nick Campisano set a school record of his own, posting a score of 207.10, good enough for a 10th-place finish.
Today's competition marked the first ever for platform diving at Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.
“It was our first chance to compete on platform this year, so hopefully we shook the cobwebs off today,” said Duke diving coach Andy Scott. “Both Duke divers will have a chance to improve on these new marks when they compete at the NCAA Zone Championships.”
The NCAA Zone Championships will be held March 2-4 at the University of Georgia. There, divers have a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The Platform Diving Championships are not part of the 2007 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, as the results will not count toward a team score.
The 2007 ACC Women's Swimming Championships will continue through this evening, Saturday, Feb. 17, with the 2007 ACC Men's Swimming Championships set for Feb. 21-24 at the University of North Carolina's Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
