DURHAM, N.C. - Seniors Joey Atas and Peter Rodrigues, junior David Goulet, sophomore Kiril Dimitrov and freshman Dylan Arnould were named to the 2007 All-ACC Academic Men's Tennis Team, as announced this week by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Duke led all ACC schools with five selections on the 21-member team, including ITA All-Americas Atas (doubles) and Goulet (doubles). Atas also received All-ACC accolades in 2007 along with Rodrigues and Dimitrov, as the Blue Devils reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the year at 16-10 overall and 8-3 in ACC action.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. This year's team also included eight repeat honorees from 2006, including Atas, Rodrigues and Dimitrov.
Virginia Tech received four all-academic nods, which included ITA Northeast Senior Player of the Year and All-ACC member Arvid Puranen and ITA Northeast Rookie of the Year Yoann Re. All-ACC pick Daniel Vallverdu was the lone Miami representative on this year's all-academic squad, as North Carolina landed three picks, and Clemson, Georgia Tech and NCAA semifinalist Virginia each had two student-athletes. Rounding out the academic team with one representative each was Boston College and Maryland.
