In last year's Southern Intercollegiate Championships, Duke's doubles team of David Goulet and Joey Atas won five straight matches to reach the finals of the Division I doubles bracket. The Blue Devils pair then suffered an 8-2 loss to Georgia's John Isner and Luis Flores. Kiril Dimitrov and Aaron Carpenter won two doubles matches as well in the tournament to reach the round of 16.
The highlight of singles for Duke in 2006 was Dimitrov winning four matches to advance to the Division I bracket semifinals. His run ended with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Flores of Georgia. Carpenter won three matches to reach the quarterfinals of the Division II bracket where he then lost to Kaden Hensel of
Duke opened its 2007 campaign at the UVA Fall Invitational in
Carpenter also reached the semifinals in his bracket with a win and a default. Leading the squad with three victories each are Reid Carleton and David Lue. Both dropped their first match of the year but bounced back to win three straight and win their consolation finals matches. Six of the eight players who participated in singles earned at least one victory on the weekend.
Three of the four doubles teams came away from the weekend with a 1-1 record. Goulet and Christopher Price won their opening match but lost in the quarterfinals. The young tandem of Carleton and Dylan Arnould also won their first match but were eliminated in the quarterfinal round.
