DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke men's tennis team will join the University of North Carolina this weekend as hosts for the 2008 Wilson/ITA Mideast Regional Championships.
The indoor tournament will kick off with qualifying matches on Thursday and will run through the main draw finals on Tuesday. Matches will take place at Duke's Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center and North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Four Blue Devils are set to compete in the first round of qualifying on Thursday. Sophomores
Alain Michel and
Jared Pinsky will be in action along with freshmen
Torsten Wietoska and
David Holland. Holland will make his collegiate debut this weekend with a match against Arthur Takahashi of Winthrop. Michel enters the tournament with a 2-4 singles record. He will take on Daniel Isaza of East Tennessee State in the first round. Pinsky is 2-5 on the year and will open against Trey Chatman of N.C. Central. Wietoska has a 2-3 record and is set to face William Lang of William & Mary.
Duke has four players who have already been selected for the main draw. Senior
Kiril Dimitrov is 7-3 on the year while sophomore
Reid Carleton has a 9-2 record and won the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational earlier this season. Junior
Dylan Arnould is 3-5 on the year and freshman
Luke Marchese has a 4-2 ledger.
Thursday's action is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Admission to all of the weekend's matches is free of charge.
