ATLANTA - The Blue Devil men's swimming & diving squad sits in ninth place heading into the final day of competition at the 2008 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships after the third day of action saw Duke set two more school records.
Freshman Nick Garvy set the first Duke all-time best of the day as he finished the 100 fly preliminary race in 48.44 seconds. Garvy went on to take 11th place in finals action with a mark of 48.60. Both times were NCAA "B" standards.
Sophomore David Hahn set a school record of his own in the 100 back prelims as he touched in 50.06 seconds. Hahn went on to best that mark in finals competition to set a Duke record for the second time in one day, taking 14th place in 49.77 seconds.
Sophomore Murillo Adrados was also in action in the 100 back finals as he took 19th place in 50.24 seconds.
The 100 breast finals saw three Blue Devils competing in junior Jordan Charles, and sophomores David Carlson and JD Coppel as Charles placed 20th (57.30), Carlson took 21st (57.37) and Coppel placed 23rd (57.69).
A quartet of Blue Devils were in action in the 200 free finals as freshman Andy Osterland placed 16th in 1:40.39, sophomore Sean Smith placed 18th in 1:40.53, senior Ryan Packer placed 19th in 1:40.95 and freshman Pieter Den Hartog placed 23rd in 1:42.98.
Senior Scott Champagne was in action in the 400 IM finals, taking 15th in 4:00.96, while sophomore Andrew Clark took 21st in 4:07.86.
The final day of the ACC Championships resumes Saturday, Mar. 1, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m. In addition, platform diving will be conducted for the first time in ACC history.
