ROUEN, France - Team USA defeated Ireland, 7-0, in its first match of the Master'U BNP Paribas international collegiate tennis competition in Rouen, France on Friday with the help of Duke's
Reid Carleton.
Carleton helped the U.S. sweep Ireland with a singles and doubles win. Carleton played at the No. 1 spot in singles and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Roman Grogan. Carleton teamed up with Texas A&M's Austin Kraijcek in men's doubles and the duo won handily, 4-0, 4-0.
The U.S. won all four of its singles contests in straight sets. Sekou Bangoura had a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 2 men's singles. Allie Will played in the No. 1 women's slot and rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory while Kristy Frilling rounded things out with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 2 women's position.
Maria Sanchez teamed with Will for a 6-1, 7-5 win in women's doubles. Frilling and Bangoura made up team USA's mixed doubles pair and won 4-0, 4-2.
All matches are being played on the clay surface. The United States squad advances to the semifinals where they will take on Germany, the No. 3 seed in the eight-team tournament.
