Reid Carleton and Texas A&M senior Austin Kraijcek earned a three-set win in doubles to clinch the United State's 4-2 win over Germany in the semifinals of the Master'U BNP Paribas in Rouen, France on Saturday.
The U.S. duo lost the first set 6-1 but fought their way back to win in a tiebreaker in the second set 7-6 (5) and then claim the super tiebreaker win for the match 1-0 (10-8).
It was a big victory for Team USA, who was tied 2-2 with the German squad entering the men's doubles contest. The U.S. received two singles victories on the women's side but Carleton then suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to a 27-year old player who used to play on the ATP tour and the women's doubles team fell in a third set super tiebreaker.
Kraijcek went on to seal the match with a singles win at the No. 1 men's slot to give the U.S. a 4-2 win. The mixed doubles match was not played due to the late finish.
Team USA will now prepare to take on the host country France in the championship match on Sunday.
