ATLANTA, Ga. - The Duke women's swimming and diving team headed into Friday's competition boasting a day's best for the program, but it was the divers who came out victorious on the day's events that shined above all performances.
Junior Abby Johnston and sophomore Nick McCrory both grabbed first Friday evening, defending their titles from last year. Johnston posted a 'Zone'-qualifying mark of 429.05 on the three-meter springboard, capturing her third consecutive title in the event. McCrory posted a 440.30 on the one-meter, claiming his second consecutive title in the event. Both scores were a season best for the divers in the events.
The Duke swimmers picked up their game on Friday, posting several impressive finishes for the program. In the 100 breast, Freshman Christine Wixted bested her own season time with 1:01.31 in the event, and grabbing an NCAA "B" cut in the event. Wixted also broke the Duke school record in the 100 breast as well. Following narrowly behind her, sophomore Emily Barber posted a "B" standard as well with her best time of 1:01.84.
Later in the evening, sophomore Francesca Tocci broke the school record with a time of 55.32 in the 100 back, narrowly missing a "B" cut by .15 of a second.
