DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's and women's tennis programs hosted the 11th annual Royal Blue Club Pro Am over the weekend, with members of the Royal Blue Club getting the opportunity to square off against Blue Devil players.
In total, 33 of the Royal Blue Club members, the biggest fans and supporters of Blue Devil tennis, participated in the event Saturday, November 19, at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
“Our annual Royal Blue Pro-Am is one of my favorite events of the year," men's head coach Ramsey Smith said. "It's a special opportunity for our men's and women's teams to play and mingle with our biggest supporters and fans. We had a great time on Saturday, and I think it got everyone even more excited about the upcoming spring season. I want to give a special thank you to Larry Herst, president of the Royal Blue Club, for spearheading this event and for everything that he does for Duke Tennis.”
The Royal Blue Club is a fan club for the men's and women's tennis programs. Benefits of joining include food and beverages at home matches, match day promotions, discounted priority court time at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center, participation in the season finale Team Pro Am and the Duke Tennis cookout, a free Duke Tennis t-shirt and Duke Tennis wrist bands.
"This annual event is a great way that our team can interact with some of our best, most loyal supporters," women's head coach Jamie Ashworth said. "The Royal Blue Club plays a tremendous role in helping make both Sheffield and Ambler the best places to play in the country and for our student-athletes to get to know who is cheering them on and vice versa truly makes the Duke tennis game-day experience a special one."
Both the men's and women's squads begin their spring seasons in January.
