ITA CAROLINA REGIONAL MATCH RESULS

CARY, N.C. – Duke junior Andrew Zhang defeated Wake Forest's Taha Baadi in the 2021 ITA Carolina Regional Championship singles match to bring home the title for the first since 2011.

Zhang became the fifth individual in Duke men's tennis history to claim the singles title, and the first since Chris Mengel did so in 2011. Henrique Cunha (2010), Jonathan Stokke (2005) and Ludovic Walter (2003 and 2004) also earned regional singles titles as a Blue Devil.

After defeating No. 16 ranked Connor Thomson of South Carolina in Monday's semifinals, Zhang had another difficult task ahead of him Tuesday as he faced seventh-seeded Baadi in the title match. Baadi outlasted Zhang in the opening set 7-5, but the Bloomfield Hills, Mich., native rallied to record back-to-back 6-1 victories in the final two frames to secure the win.

Zhang will next travel to San Diego, Calif., on Nov. 4-7 for the ITA National Fall Championships.
