MADISON, N.J. - Duke fencing ended the 2025 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday with 10 top-10 performances, highlighted by Charlotte Koenig's second-place finish in women's foil and Dayaal Singh's third-place showing in men's foil. It marks the second consecutive year Koenig placed within the top two at the regional while Singh made an 11-spot jump from his 14th-place showing in 2024.
How It Happened
- Koenig and Singh were the highest placing Blue Devils, but junior Rachel Koo was just behind with a fourth-place finish in women's foil. Koo earned a 12th-place finish at last season's regional.
- Duke's other top-10 performers were freshman Joseph Glasson (6th, foil), sophomore Sophia Shen (7th, foil), freshman Lev Ermakov (8th, saber), senior Rachel Kowalsky (9th, epee), junior Kunling Tong (9th, saber), sophomore Samir Travers (9th, saber) and freshman William Holz (10th, saber).
- Shen made a three-spot jump from the 2024 event while Tong, coming off a silver medal at the ACC Championships, repeated in ninth place. Travers owns two top-10 finishes in his two regional appearances with a sixth-place performance in 2024. Kowalsky has finished in the top nine in her last three regional trips and qualified for regionals all four years of her Blue Devil career.
- The men's saber squad and the women's foil crew qualified the most competitors in the final round of pool play with three each.
- Qualifiers for the NCAA Championship will be announced next week. A fencer's performance at regionals will have a direct impact on his or her chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championship, as both the regular season resumé and placing at the regional meet will be considered when the field is selected.
