DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis doubles duo of Cooper Williams and Theo Winegar was selected to compete in the US Open Wild Card playoffs the United State Tennis Association (USTA) announced Wednesday. The event will take place in Orlando, Fla., at the USTA National Campus from June 16-18.Â
All matches will begin at 5 p.m. ET and will be streamed on the USTA National Campus website.Â
The tournament showcases the top American collegiate players competing for the six guaranteed US Open wild card entries. Any American player or American doubles team that wins the NCAA singles or doubles championship or reaches the singles or doubles final at the NCAA DI Individual Championships held in the fall automatically qualified for the playoffs, while others were selected by a committee.Â
The winners of a four-team men's doubles playoff will earn US Open main draw doubles wild cards.Â
Williams and Winegar were voted in by the committee after their impressive season. The duo finished the year ranked with a 11-2 overall record, including a 8-0 mark against ranked opponents, and closed the year on a six-match unbeaten streak. As announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday, the pair earned All-America honors after finishing third in the final doubles rankings.
