DURHAM, N.C. - After opening the season with a 2-1 win over a top-10 opponent, the 15th-ranked Duke men's soccer team welcomes UC San Diego to Koskinen Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 24. Kickoff between the Blue Devils and Tritons is scheduled for 7 p.m., and caps off a men's soccer doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m., with a match between Furman and San Diego. One ticket is good for both matches.
MATCHUP NOTES
- Duke leads the all-time series, 1-0, after defeating UC San Diego, 3-2, on Aug. 25, 2024.
- Similar to this season, the Blue Devils and Tritons also met in the second game of the season in 2024.
FIRST TOUCH
- Sunday night caps a season-opening home double for the Blue Devils, after No. 15 Duke secured a 2-1 victory against No. 10 San Diego on Thursday night at Koskinen Stadium. The victory moved Duke to 9-4-5 in season openers under head coach John Kerr and avenged a 1-0 loss to the Toreros in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
- Duke was led by a pair of freshmen in the 2-1 win, with Max Simpson and Aridon Racaj both scoring on their debut.Â
- The Blue Devils have had sustained success inside the friendly confines of Koskinen Stadium, holding a 122-48-28 (.685) ledger during Kerr's tenure.Â
PRESEASON ACCOLADES FOR WOLFIE
- After a strong sophomore season that saw Ulfur Bjornsson lead the team in goals (13) and points (29), the junior forward has garnered national attention ahead of the 2025 season.
- The striker, whose first name translates to Wolf, debuted as the No. 1 player in preseason Top 100 by TopDrawerSoccer (TDS), was included on United Soccer Coaches' Forwards to Watch list, is a First Team Starting XI selection by TDS and was named as a Preseason Player to Watch in the ACC.
- Bjornsson picked up his first point of the 2025 season with an assist on Max Simpson's first-half goal against San Diego.
