DURHAM, N.C. – Duke cross country kickstarted the 2025 campaign with a strong showing on the Duke Reclamation Pond course as the men's and women's teams garnered first-place finishes to post a sweep of the tri-meet with North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central Tuesday morning.
The Blue Devil men claimed 11 of the top 15 placements en route to totaling 15 points on the 4K course. Duke's women's squad concluded its 3K race with 17 points while featuring five runners among the top-nine finishers.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Graduate students Declan McDonnell, Charlie Siebert, Jack Stanley and Beck Wittstadt and sophomore Matt Ryan led the charge for the Duke men as the quintet claimed the top-five placements in the men's field.
- Wittstadt spearheaded the efforts with a time of 11:51.2 while Siebert (11:51.5) edged out Stanley (11:51.6) by a hair to finish as runner-up in his first race as a Blue Devil. Also competing in their first races at Duke, McDonnell clocked 11:52.0 to place fourth and Ryan crossed the finish line in 11:52.2 to round out the top five.
- Lucca Fulkerson, Stephanie Moss and Grace Ping shined in their Duke cross country debuts, the trio staking claim to three of the top-five spots on the leaderboard.
- Moss claimed the win in the women's race via a time of 9:58.9, while Fulkerson (9:59.7) and Ping (10:01.6) took third and fifth, respectively.

UP NEXT:
The Blue Devils travel to Columbia, Missouri to take part in the Gans Creek Classic Sept. 26 at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The morning opens with the men's 8K Division I Race at 8 a.m., followed by the Women's 6K Division I Race at 8:45 a.m.
