CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 15 Duke men's tennis team took a 1-0 lead at Illinois, but the Fighting Illini came back with four singles victories to win 4-1 Friday night at the Atkins Tennis Center.Â

The Blue Devils fall to 4-2 while Illinois improves to 3-2.Â
How It Happened
- Duke captured its sixth doubles point in as many matches Friday with triumphs on courts three and two.Â
- On court three, Teddy Truwit and Alexander Visser came away with a 6-2 triumph versus William Mroz and Zach Viiala. Duke's pair turned a 3-2 lead into a match victory with the final three games of the set. Truwit and Visser are now 3-1 in 2026.Â
- Following just behind were Dylan Long and Gerard Planelles Ripoll on court two with a 6-3 win against Gabriel Debru and Sasha Colleu. With the set even at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3, Duke's duo ran away with the last three games for the match. Long and Planelles Ripoll improve to 2-2 in dual action.Â
- Illinois earned four consecutive singles matches to capture the victory.Â
- On six, Hayden Jones topped Saahith Jayaraman 6-1, 6-3. After breezing through the first set, Jones led 4-1 in the second before Jayaraman captured two to close the gap.Â
- Mroz made it 2-1 Illinois with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory against Visser on court three. The first set was even at every game until pushing into the tiebreaker. Visser led 3-1 in the tiebreaker before Mroz powered through the final six points for the set. In the second, the two were tied at 1-1 and 2-2 before Mroz sprinted ahead 5-2. Visser held to make it a 5-3 set, but Mroz served out for the win.Â
- Illinois pushed its lead to 3-1 with a court one win as No. 10 Kenta Miyoshi earned a 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory against Cooper Williams. Miyoshi led 2-0 and 4-2 in the opening set before closing it out. Williams took a quick 2-0 lead in the second set, but Miyoshi went on a four-game run to lead 4-2. Williams got a game back to trail 4-3 and 5-4 before breaking to knot the set at 5-5. The two each held and forced a tiebreaker. Williams led 3-1 in the tiebreaker before Miyoshi forced a 4-4 tie. With the tiebreaker even at 5-5 and 6-6, Miyoshi took the final two points for the match.Â
- The Fighting Illini ended the match on court four, where No. 87 Adam Jilly downed Planelles Ripoll 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Jilly breezed through the opening set before Planelles Ripoll took a 2-1 lead in the second set. Jilly bounced back with consecutive games with a hold and break to take a 3-2 lead. Planelles Ripolll replied with the next four games to force a third set. Once there, Jilly turned a 2-2 set into a 5-2 lead. Planelles Ripoll got a game back but could not force a tie.Â
