DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men's golf head coach
Bob Heintz has announced the addition of transfer
Carson Looney to the Blue Devils' program. Looney joins Duke after an award-winning freshman campaign at VCU in which he earned Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year honors and All-Atlantic 10 recognition.
Â
A native of Bethesda, Maryland, Looney led VCU with a 72.21 stroke average during the 2025-26 season while competing in 11 of the Rams' 12 tournaments. He posted 20 rounds of par or better in 33 rounds, recorded four top-10 finishes and five top-25 showings, including a pair of medalist honors.
Â
Looney finished in first place at both the Monterrey Collegiate Classic and the Donald Ross Intercollegiate before a runner-up performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship, firing a 9-under-par 207 (67-71-69) at the conference championship. He finished the year as the highest-ranked freshman in the Atlantic 10 in the Scoreboard rankings.
Â
Prior to his collegiate career, Looney established himself as a top prep golfer at Gonzaga College High School. He earned All-Met First Team honors three consecutive years and was named the 2024 All-Met Player of the Year after sharing Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Player of the Year accolades.
Â
Looney closed his high school career by winning back-to-back WCAC individual championships and three consecutive D.C. State Athletic Association individual titles. His performances also helped Gonzaga capture nine straight WCAC team championships and consecutive DCSAA team titles.
Â
"When we evaluated the transfer portal this spring, the clear goal was finding a player who would be impactful. We believe Carson Looney is that kind of student-athlete," said Heintz. "He's a proven winner at the collegiate level, grew up as a multi-sport athlete, and has the character and work ethic to ensure a strong contribution to our team. We're excited about what Carson brings to the table and look forward to his arrival in Durham."
Â
Looney joins a Duke recruiting class that already includes
Clark Mason (St. Petersburg, Fla.),
Jonathan Weinberg (Boca Raton, Fla.) and
Jack Chung (Greenwich, Conn.), who signed with the Blue Devils during the fall signing period.
