
Ludovic Walter Moves to Semifinals With Two Wins on Friday

Columbus, Ohio - Ludovic Walter defeated two of the top five seeds on Thursday to advance to the semifinal round of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Walter, ranked second in the country in the preseason ITA singles rankings, faced Jerry Makowski of Texas A & M, the fifth seed in the tournament and fifth ranked player in the country, in the round of 16. Walter came away with a hard fought victory in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3). The win sent Walter to the quarterfinal round where he had a match with third seeded Lars Poerschke of Baylor. Poerschke, ranked 25th in the country, was no match for Walter as he fell to the senior from Vannes, France in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Walter continued to move up the charts in all-time wins at Duke. His two wins on Thursday moved him in to a tie with Peter Ayers for seventh with 103 career wins. He only needs four more wins to tie Chris Pressley for sixth on the list.
Waiting in the wings for Walter is another tough opponent. He will face K.C. Corkery of Stanford, the seventh seed in the tournament and ninth ranked player in the nation, on Saturday. Corkery ended Mislav Hizak's streak through the tournament with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals on Friday. Hizak knocked Ryler DeHeart, the top seed in the tournament, out in the first round.
Playing in the consolation round on Friday was Jonathan Stokke. He squared off against Brandon Wai of Yale, who lost to Walter in the first round on Thursday. Stokke had a similar result, knocking Wai out of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. He will move forward to the consolation quarterfinal round on Saturday where he will face Rylan Rizza of Virginia.The win gives Stokke 78 for his career and brings him to within two wins of tying Phillip King for 11th on the all-time wins list with 80.
The semifinal round of the main draw will take place on Saturday along with the quarterfinals and semifinals of the consolation matches. The two finals matches will take place on Sunday. The consolation finals will be played at 10 a.m. and the men's championship match will be played at 12:30 p.m.
