
Walter Advances to Championship Match at ITA National Indoors

Columbus, Ohio - Ludovic Walter advanced to the championship match of the 2005 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio with a straight set victory in the semifinals on Saturday. Walter's teammate Jonathan Stokke, advanced to the finals in the consolation bracket with two victories as well.
Walter, ranked second in the country in the preseason ITA singles rankings, defeated his third seeded opponent in this tournament to move on to the finals. He faced seventh seeded K.C. Corkery of Stanford and won 7-6 (3), 6-4. Walter has not lost a set in this tournament with four straight set victories. He will play in his first career national championship match on Sunday when he goes head-to-head with fourth seeded Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA. Kohlloeffel, the third-ranked player in the nation, had a tough battle with second seeded John Isner in his semifinal match and snuck away with a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (6) win.
After losing to sixth seeded Luke Shield of Boise State in the first round, Stokke has caught fire in the consolation bracket. He won two more matches on Saturday to advance to the finals. He opened the day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rylan Rizza of Virginia, ranked No. 16 in the country, in the quarterfinals and then came back for a win in three sets in the semifinals. He lost the first set 3-6 to Daniel Byrnes of Oklahoma State, but battled his way to a 7-6 (9), 7-6 (4) victory to earn a chance to play on Sunday. He will face Ryler DeHeart of Illinois, the top seed in the tournament and top-ranked player in the country, in the finals. DeHeart defeated Virginia's Treat Huey 6-3, 6-4 to advance. Stokke's two wins on Saturday moved him in to a tie with Phillip King for 12th on the all-time wins list at Duke. He now has 80 career wins and is four shy of Jeff Hersh for 11th on the list.
The two finals matches will take place tomorrow wth the consolation final scheduled for 10 a.m. and the men's championship match scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The tournament is being held at the Racquet Club of Columbus and is hosted by Ohio State University.
