
No. 22 Texas Takes 8 of 12 matches against No. 8 Duke at Hidden Duals

Miami, Fla. - On the second day of action at the Hidden Dual Tournament in Miami, Fla., No. 22 Texas won five of the eight singles matches and three of the four doubles matches against No. 8 Duke.
The three Blue Devils that won in singles action were Peter Rodrigues, Kiril Dimitrov and Christopher Brown. Rodrigues won for the second straight day as he rallied after losing the first set, 5-7, to come back with wins of 6-3 and 7-5 to take the match from Milan Mihailovic. Dimitrov improved to 2-0 in his short career at Duke with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 victory over Miguel Reyes Varela. Brown had the only win in straight sets for Duke, defeating Luis Diaz Barriga 6-4, 6-1.
Both of Duke's ranked singles players fell in their matches on Sunday. No. 9 Ludovic Walter lost the first set 3-6 but rallied to win the second set, 6-3. However, No. 44 Travis Helgeson was able to edge Walter in the final set, 6-4, to take the match. No. 20 Jonathan Stokke lost in straight sets to Callum Beale 6-3, 7-5. The other Longhorn's ranked player, No. 34 Roger Gubser, defeated the Blue Devils Joey Atas 7-5, 6-4.
In the other singles matches, Duke's Ned Samuelson fell 7-5, 6-3 to Michael Venus and Alex Stone lost 6-2, 6-2 against Hubert Chodkiewiez.
In doubles action, the only win for the Blue Devils came when Rodrigues and Samuelson teamed up for an 8-5 victory over Beale and Varela. Atas and Walter lost a close match against the No. 34 doubles team of Helgeson and Venus, 9-8. Stokke and Stone fell 8-6 to Gubser and Chodkiewiez. Dimitrov and Brown lost 8-6 to Mihailovic and Bernard Deussner.
Duke will play their final dual match at the Hidden Dual Tournament on Monday when they square off against the University of Miami at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils will host their first dual match of the season on January 29 at 6 p.m. against Old Dominion.
