No. 4 Duke Sweeps Match With UC-Irvine on Sunday

Irvine, Calif. - No. 9 Duke came away with a sweep in singles and doubles against UC-Irvine for a 6-0 victory on Sunday to improve to 8-2 on the season.
Duke cruised through their first match against an unranked team. They started the match with three doubles victories. No. 22 Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke defeated Aaron Ellis and Andrei Radulescu handily 8-2. The pairings of Ned Samuelson/Ludovic Walter and Alex Stone/Peter Rodrigues each came away with 8-5 wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.
The Blue Devils won five singles matches in straight sets. Stephen Amritraj made his first singles appearance of the 2005-06 season and earned a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Shimpel Suzuki in the No. 6 slot. No. 4 Ludovic Walter and No. 56 Peter Rodrigues each improved to 8-1 on the year in dual matches. Walter defeated Victor Lamm 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 and is now 18-6 on the year. Rodrigues earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mustafa Ulukan to improve to 14-7 overall. Duke's other two ranked players also earned victories. No. 28 Jonathan Stokke won 6-3, 6-4 against Aaron Ellis for his 20th victory of the season. No. 98 Kiril Dimitrov came away with a 6-3, 6-3 win to move to 6-2 in dual matches and 8-3 overall. The No. 4 singles was not finished.
Duke will remain in Southern California for a dual match against No. 34 USC on Monday at 1:30 p.m. They will conclude their trip with a top-10 match against No. 6 UCLA on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
