Palo Alto, Calif. - Ludovic Walter, the fifth seed in the NCAA Singles Tournament, moved on to the second round after his opponent retired in the opening match of the tournament on Wednesday at the Taube Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University.
Walter, a senior from Vannes, France, jumped out to a 4-1 lead in his match against Baylor's Michal Kokta before the match was retired. Walter improved to 31-11 on the season with the victory. He is now 127-41 in his career at Duke and finished the season with a 20-6 dual match record and 8-3 mark in the ACC. He moves on to the second round where he will face the winner of the first-round match between Florida's Greg Ouellette and Washington's Alex Slovic.
Singles competition will continue on Thursday with the second round of action beginning at 10 a.m. The NCAA Men's Doubles Championships will begin with the round of 32 also starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Duke's Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke will square off against the top seed in the tournament Ohio State's Scott Green and Ross Wilson.
