DURHAM, N.C. - The 2009 Wilson/ITA Carolina Regional Championships will start Thursday night with the first round of doubles taking place on the campuses of Duke University and the University of North Carolina.
The Blue Devils will have three doubles teams in action the first night with two others receiving first round byes. The two with first round byes are both seeded combinations with Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha the No. 2 seed. The two players are 9-2 on the year and are coming off a victory in the consolation finals of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships. The No. 5 seed is Alain Michel and Torsten Wietoska, who will play together for the first time this season.
Two Duke doubles teams are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. No. 13 seed Dylan Arnould and David Holland will start with a match against Winthrop's Guy Kubi and Nadav Ruppin. Aaron Carpenter and David Lue will be facing Wake Forest's Amogh Prabhakar and Conner Sherwood. At 8 p.m., Luke Marchese and Jared Pinsky will team up to go head-to-head with Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs of Appalachian State.
Singles matches will begin Friday morning. The tournament will run through Sunday with the finalists in singles and doubles advancing to the National Indoor Championships.
