DURHAM, N.C. - The 2009 Wilson/ITA Carolina Regionals started Thursday evening with the opening round of doubles and Duke's Dylan Arnould and David Holland advanced with a first round win.
Arnould and Holland, the No. 13 seed in the tournament, won with little trouble in their first match, coming through with an 8-3 win to move on. The duo are now 2-2 in doubles this season and advance to the round of 32.
The Blue Devils had two other doubles teams in action on Thursday. Aaron Carpenter and David Lue took a lead midway through their match, but Wake Forest's Amogh Prabhakar and Conner Sherwood rallied for an 8-6 win. Luke Marchese and Jared Pinsky fell down 4-1, but made it close before Appalachian State's Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs closed off the match with an 8-5 victory.
Several Duke players will be in action on Friday for the first round of singles. Lue and Holland will play at 8:30 a.m. Alain Michel is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. and Torsten Wietoska at 11:30 a.m. In the afternoon, Pinsky and Carpenter are slated for 1:30 p.m. starts while Marchese has a 2 p.m. match.
Friday's matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the first round of singles. There will be one round of singles and two rounds of doubles on Friday. Matches are taking place on the campus of Duke University and the University of North Carolina.
