DURHAM, N.C. - Duke senior Reid Carleton was chosen as the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student Athlete of the Week on Monday after winning singles and doubles titles at the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend.
Carleton is undefeated through two weeks with two singles championships and two doubles titles on the year. He is 8-0 in singles with four wins over ranked opponents. He earned wins over No. 85 Joey Burkhardt (North Carolina), No. 21 Rhyne Williams (Tennessee) and No. 30 Jose Hernandez en route to the A-3 singles title last weekend. Carleton has teamed with two separate partners and has claimed titles with both Henrique Cunha in the Duke Fab Four Invite and Chris Mengel in the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational.
For his career Carleton now has a 75-37 record in singles, becoming the 16th player in school history with 75 career wins. He now has an 82-34 mark in doubles, placing him tied for 11th all-time at Duke for individual doubles victories.
Next up for Carleton and the Blue Devils' men's tennis team will be the 2010 ITA/D'Novo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Carleton will start the tournament in the qualifying stage and will try to win three matches to reach the main draw.
