DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke and N.C. State men's tennis teams will co-host the USTA/ITA Carolina ITA Regional this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. More than 128 competitors will be in action as the tournament stretches from Friday through Tuesday.
The singles and doubles winners from each of the 12 USTA/ITA regions advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held November 12-15 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Eight of the 10 Blue Devils will compete this weekend: freshmen Adrian Chamdani, Ryan Dickerson, Jason Lapidus and Vincent Lin, sophomore Andrew DeJoy, junior TJ Pura and seniors Josh Levine and Daniel McCall.
Lin enters the draw as the No. 7 seed and faces South Carolina's Harison O'Keefe in the opening round at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Lin owns a team-best five wins this fall, going 5-2. In his last appearance, he won a pair of matches at the Saint Francis ITA All-American prequalifying before falling in the round of 64.
A trio of Blue Devils boast even records this fall as Chamdani is 3-3, Levine is 2-2 and Pura is 1-1. Lapidus and McCall own 1-3 marks while DeJoy is 0-4. This will be the first match of the fall for Dickerson.
Playing first Friday will be Lapidus with an 8:30 a.m. match with Winthrop's Josh Ryan. In the 9:30 a.m. slot are Dickerson against Wofford's Haris Poric, and McCall versus UNC Greensboro's Will Albright. Pura and DeJoy begin at 10 a.m. and take on UNCG's Warren Bryan and Clemson's Austin Ansari, respectively. Chamdani faces Campbell's Gerard Sola at 10:30 a.m. while Levine matches up with UNCG's Trey Gray at noon.
Following this weekend's qualifier event, the Blue Devils close the fall season November 6-8 at the Wake Forest Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C.
