Sculley, Stachowiak Move on at ITA All-Americans

Blue Devils Advance in Qualifying Stage
TULSA, Okla. – Senior Nick Stachowiak and junior Sean Sculley kicked off the qualifying round of the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships in strong fashion Monday at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Center.
Stachowiak, ranked 59th in the ITA's preseason singles poll, saw his first singles action of the ITA All-American Championships in Monday's first round. The Cary, N.C., native dispatched the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Niklas Gerdes, 6-1, 6-2, to earn a spot in Tuesday's second round where he will take on Ilgiz Valiev of Texas Tech Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Later in the day, Stachowiak teamed up with Sculley to post a pair of doubles victories. The Blue Devil duo defeated Davis Lawley and Abdoul Ouattara of Omaha, 6-2, 6-1, before outlasting Columbia's Austen Huang and Alex Kotzen, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4) in the round of 32. Up next, Sculley and Stachowiak face Ohio State's Justin Boulais and James Trotter Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
The Blue Devils wrapped up the pre-qualifying stage of the tournament Sunday with two freshmen representing the program in the singles round of 64. Samuel Rubell battled to three sets before falling to Florida State's Chase Wood, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 and Andrew Zhang also suffered a tough setback to Connor Thomson of South Carolina, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-2.
