TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Duke volleyball team was swept by Florida State 3-0 (22-25, 7-25, 10-25) Sunday afternoon at Tully Gymnasium in Tallahassee, Fla.
With the loss, the Blue Devils fall to 12-18 overall and 5-12 in conference play as the Seminoles improve to 18-8 and 11-5 in ACC action.
The Seminoles posted a .378 hitting percentage for the match with 34 kills and just six errors while the Blue Devils were limited to a .022 percentage with 24 kills and 22 errors in the three-set loss.
Offensively, Florida State was led by Payton Caffrey, who is second in the conference, with 15 kills and no hitting errors to hit .652 for the contest.
Defensively, the Blue Devils were left without a block in the match as the Seminoles collected seven total team blocks. Prior to the match, Duke was fourth in the ACC with 288.5 total blocks this season.
Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by junior
Payton Schwantz with nine kills and sophomore
Ade Owokoniran with seven. Setter
Sarah Nelson dished 12 assists while libero
Mackenzie Cole added nine digs.
The Blue Devils trailed 18-14 in the opening set before Schwantz knocked down back-to-back kills to pull within two, forcing a Seminole timeout. Duke would then go on a 4-0 scoring run that featured a
Sarah Nelson ace to tie it up just before Florida State featured its own 5-0 run to give them the upper hand heading into the second frame.
Duke was unable to find its rhythm offensively in the final two sets and couldn't stop the Seminole offense. As a team, Florida State hit .550 percent and .474 percent in the second and third sets, respectively.
Duke will close out the regular season Friday, Nov. 29 for a 1 p.m., match against Notre Dame on ACCNX.
