DURHAM, N.C. – Duke will close out the regular season on the road Friday, Nov. 29 at Notre Dame for a 1 p.m., contest in Purcell Pavilion on ACCNX. Entering the contest, the Blue Devils are 12-18 overall and 5-12 in conference play while the Irish are 18-9 and 11-6 in the ACC.
LAST TIME OUT
The Duke volleyball team was swept by Florida State 3-0 (22-25, 7-25, 10-25) Sunday afternoon at Tully Gymnasium in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Seminoles posted a .378 hitting percentage for the match with 34 kills and just six errors while the Blue Devils were limited to a .022 percentage with 24 kills and 22 errors in the three-set loss.
Defensively, the Blue Devils were left without a block in the match as the Seminoles collected seven total team blocks. Prior to the match, Duke was fourth in the ACC with 288.5 total blocks this season.
Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by junior
Payton Schwantz with nine kills and sophomore
Ade Owokoniran with seven. Setter
Sarah Nelson dished 12 assists while libero
Mackenzie Cole added nine digs.
SCOUTING THE IRISH
The Irish are coming off a five-set loss at Georgia Tech (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 17-25, 8-15) over the weekend in Atlanta. Prior to the contest in Atlanta, the Irish fell to Louisville in three sets (21-25,18-25, 14-25). Overall, Notre Dame is 18-9, 11-6 in the ACC and are 34th in the latest RPI.
Notre Dame is led offensively by three with 300+ kills this season: Charley Niego (381), Caroline Meuth (338) and Sydney Bent (323). Defensively, Madison Cruzado leads the team with 411 digs as the Irish lead the ACC with 1,638 total digs while Kristin Baer owns 113 blocks this season.
As a team, Notre Dame is hitting .203 percent and is limiting opponents to a .190 clip. The Irish are in the top five in the conference in four categories: opponent hitting percentage (.190), assists (1,307), kills (1,396) and digs (1,638).
NOTRE DAME TAKES THE FIRST OF TWO MEETINGS
In their first meeting on Oct. 13, the Duke volleyball team fell to Notre Dame 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-27, 18-25) in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Notre Dame featured four athletes with double-digit kills as Charley Niego had a team-high 16 with 14 kills for a double-double.
For the Blue Devils, junior
Payton Schwantz paced the offense and defense with 15 kills and 15 digs while sophomore
Ade Owokoniran added 11 kills. Defensively, libero
Mackenzie Cole added 15 digs and middle blockers
Lily Cooper and
Lizzie Fleming had four blocks each.
