How It Happened
- Old Dominion entered the match with three ranked doubles squads, and Duke came away with two victories and the coveted doubles point.Â
- Sophomore Cooper Williams and graduate Andreja Petrovic tallied the Blue Devils' first win by downing No. 41 Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak on court two, 6-2. The Duke duo broke to begin the set and took a quick 2-0 lead. ODU held and narrowed the gap to a 3-2 Blue Devil lead, but the Duke pair went on a hold-break-hold run to secure the match.
- Duke secured the point seconds later on court three, where Dugardin and senior Connor Krug topped No. 95 Yanis Moundir and Thomas Nelson, 6-4. As on court two, a break in game one helped put the Blue Devils up early 2-0, but the Monarchs replied as neither side registered another break. With Duke leading 5-4, it held serve to capture the doubles point. Â
- Krug made it a 2-0 Duke lead with a 6-3, 7-6 (0) win against Moundir on court four. Krug led 4-3 in the opening set before holding and breaking to end it. The second set was even at 3-3 before Moundir broke and held to gain a 5-3 edge. Krug fought back with a hold and break of his own to even the set at 5-5. With both holding, the set went to a tiebreaker with Krug ripping off the first seven points for the match. Krug is now 2-0 in dual matches.Â
- Petrovic finished minutes later with a straight-set win for a 3-0 Blue Devil advantage. On court three, Petrovic downed Codie van Schalkwyk, 6-3, 6-4. With the opening set even at 3-3, Petrovic used a hold-break-hold string to secure it. The second set featured a Petrovic break in the opening game, and he never allowed van Schalkwyk to get closer than one game the rest of the way with leads a 3-2, 4-3 and 5-4 before holding to end the match. Petrovic improved to 2-0 in dual action.
- Minutes later, Dugardin put the match away on court five with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 triumph against Majchrzak. Dugardin found himself in a 5-2 hole in the opening set, but clawed back with three consecutive wins to even the set at 5-5. Once in the tiebreaker, he took control with a 4-1 lead. Majchrzak narrowed the deficit in the tiebreaker to one at 5-4, but Dugardin took the final two points. The two were even at 2-2 in the second set before Dugardin rattled off four-straight games for the match.Â
Quotes
"It is always really nice to host the ITA Kickoff Weekend, which is something we accomplished last year by being a top-15 team. We have three tough teams here. I thought Old Dominion played a really good match, especially in singles and the midway part of the match. There were some tough first sets. ODU made a push, and it really could have flipped the momentum. Remy came back and won his first set on five, Cooper was down in the tiebreaker in the first set on one and Saahith (Jayaraman)
came back in the first on six. Big picture, it's great to get a win and watch the second match to prepare for tomorrow.

"Connor has been amazing, especially this semester. He came back as a man on a mission. He did great in Arizona. He just fully committed to going after it and playing aggressive. Sometimes in the past he has gotten in trouble when he gets a little careful. He has really been leading on the court. That was huge for him to get that win down on the second set today. He has been fantastic in both singles and doubles." – Duke head coachÂ
