
Goulet Advances In Qualifying At All-American

TULSA, OKLA. - Junior David Goulet posted a win on Monday in the first round of the qualifying bracket at the 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla.
The win puts Goulet one step closer to qualifying for the prestigious tournament's main draw, which is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 5, as Goulet defeated Conner Pollock of Texas A&M in straight sets (6-4, 7-5). The junior is set to meet Southern California's Jason McNaughton on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. CT (12:30 p.m. ET).
Three other Blue Devils were in singles action on Monday, but were defeated. Sophomore Kiril Dimitrov fell to Ross Cunningham of Tulsa in a hard-fought three-set match (7-5, 3-6, 6-0), while senior Joey Atas was defeated by Markus Dickhardt of San Diego State, 6-1, 6-3. Freshman, 111th-ranked Dylan Arnould, fell to Georgia State's Martin Steigwardt (6-3, 6-3).
Doubles qualifying is set to begin on Tuesday with one Duke duo in action, Arnould and Goulet will meet Artie Burmistrau and Ivan Puchkarova of Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m. CT (3:30 p.m. ET).
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships include five days of qualifying events that precede the October 5-8 main draw. A 128-player prequalifying tournament takes place Sept. 30-Oct. 1. This feeds into 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments Oct. 2-5, which then feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws
Duke senior Peter Rodrigues will compete in the main draw. The draw will be available on Oct. 4.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
