"It was a great day on the courts for us today," said head coach Ramsey Smith. "Our energy and focus was solid from start to finish and we took care of business."
Duke was able to win the doubles point in both matches, despite missing half of the No. 3 duo in the country. The Blue Devils were without freshman Henrique Cunha in both matches of the day so Duke moved up their No. 2 and 3 doubles teams and then teamed Reid Carleton and Jared Pinsky at the No. 3 spot. Carleton and Pinsky won both their doubles matches on the day while Dylan Arnould and David Holland clinched the doubles point against Harvard and defeated the No. 27 team in the country, Thomas Nolan and Erik Kreutzer of Boston College.
"Doubles set the tone for us," said Smith. "David and Dylan came up huge for us at the No. 1 slot. Against Harvard they were down two breaks and also saved several match points before clinching the doubles point in the tiebreaker. In our second match they defeated the No. 27 team in the country, 8-1. I also thought Jared came up big for us in doubles, stepping in with Reid to win two matches for us at the No. 3 slot."
In singles, Holland and Luke Marchese each won two matches on the day in straight sets. The Blue Devils won three singles contests against Harvard and did not finish the other three contests. Duke then won five of the six singles matches against Boston College to start out the conference season 1-0.
The complete results from the Boston College match were unavailable and will be posted on goduke.com at a later date.
Overall Duke is now 8-5 on the year. Next up, they will travel to Maryland for a match at 12 noon in College Park, Md. on Sunday.
