DURHAM, N.C. – The fourth-ranked Pittsburgh volleyball team bested Duke, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-13), Friday night inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils drop to 5-17 overall and 2-9 in conference matches, while the Panthers improve to 18-3 and 10-1 in ACC play.Â
Sophomore Taylor Williams led the offense for the Blue Devils with 10 terminations, while freshman Charlotte Glass dished out a team-best 21 assists. Williams logged 11 digs to lead the backrow, and sophomore Avery Hamlin posted with three blocks.Â
How It Happened
Set One – Duke 18, Pitt 25
- Pitt took the 1-0 match lead with a 25-18 triumph in the opening set. The frame was knotted at 10-10 before the Panthers used a 7-3 run to establish a 17-13 edge. Duke responded, taking four of the next five points, but Pitt closed the set with a 7-1 run to round out its 25-18 win.Â
Set Two – Duke 15, Pitt 25Â
- The Panthers pushed their lead out to 2-0 with a 25-15 victory in set two. Pitt jumped to a 10-4 start, forcing the Blue Devils to a time out. The Panthers held momentum after the break, going on a 9-3 spurt to push ahead, 19-7. Duke and Pitt went back and forth, exchanging two points apiece, with the Panthers holding the 23-13 advantage. The set was closed with the Panthers claiming two of the final four marks.Â
Set Three – Duke 13, Pitt 25
- Pitt clinched the match with a 25-13 decision in the third frame. The Panthers established a 13-3 early lead before the Blue Devils went on a 5-2 push, led by Williams with two terminations. The Panthers responded with seven straight putaways, but Duke halted their run by taking five of the next six points; however, Pitt ended the match with two straight points securing its 25-13 triumph in the final frame.Â
