DURHAM, N.C. – Duke is set to face Virginia Tech Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m., before hosting Virginia Sunday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played inside Cameron Indoor Stadium and streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Last Time Out
The Blue Devils traveled to the Golden State last weekend, falling 3-0 in matches against California and No. 5 Stanford.
The Golden Bears swept Duke Friday, 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-18). Sophomore Taylor Williams tallied seven kills to eclipse 450 career terminations, while freshman Charlotte Glass surpassed 400 assists on the season with 13 against the Golden Bears. Defensively, Williams and sophomore Mailinh Godschall each registered double-digit digs, logging 11 and 10, respectively. At the net, Williams led with four total blocks.
To close out its cross-country road trip, Duke dropped a 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-14) decision to fifth-ranked Stanford Saturday. Duke was led offensively by Williams with six kills on a match-high 34 total attacks to hit at a .029 clip, while Glass led the Blue Devils with nine assists. On the other end of the court, Godschall anchored the back row with eight digs.
Offensive Threats
The Blue Devils have tallied a total of 1,053 kills this season and rank No. 14 in the ACC in average kills per set (11.97). The offense is led by Williams with 254 kills and freshman Ashby Zubchevich follows closely behind with 245.
Williams is having a breakout sophomore campaign. A season ago she totaled 208 terminations, a mark she has surpassed with 254 putaways this year. She boasts a .170 attack percentage and has notched double-digit kills in 13 matches this season. She tallied a career-best 18 kills to help surge the offense to a 3-1 triumph over Bryant in Duke's season-opening match. Williams' last double-digit showing came against No. 4 Pitt, when she logged a double-double with 10 putaways and 11 digs.
Zubchevich has been dominant on offense for Duke, recording double-digit kills in 11 matches this season. She turned in her best offensive stretch of her career, tallying 42 kills during conference-opening weekend -- 21 kills against NC State and 21 marks against Wake Forest. Zubchevich's last double-digit outing came against seventh-ranked SMU, when she logged 12 kills on 32 attempts to hit at a .156 clip.
Defensive Efforts
Duke comes in at fifth in the ACC, earning 1,263 total digs, averaging 14.35 digs per set.
Godschall, who ranks first in the conference with 4.17 digs per set, leads the Blue Devils and the ACC with 367 total marks. She has tallied 20 or more digs in six matches this season - Bryant, Houston, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Appalachian State and Wake Forest. She almost touched that mark last against Boston College, earning 19 gets. Godschall also ranks No. 83 nationally with her 4.17 average gets per set this season.
Duke has totaled 167.0 total blocks, including 30 solo blocks and 274 block assists, and posts an average of 1.90 blocks per set. Redshirt senior Ngozi Iloh leads Duke with 77.0 total blocks, marking the most she's posted in a season during her collegiate career. She has five or more blocks in five matches this season, posting a career-best eight blocks in the Blue Devils' second matchup against the Tar Heels this season. Last time out, she combined for four total blocks, posting three against California and closing the weekend with a denial against No. 5 Stanford.
A Closer Look at the Series Versus Virginia Tech
Duke leads the all-time series against Virginia Tech, 35-6, and holds a 25-6 advantage in conference play. The Blue Devils enter the matchup on a two-match win streak over the Hokies, including a 3-0 sweep in Blacksburg, Virginia, last season. The series dates back to 1979, when Duke secured a 3-0 victory.
A Closer Look at the Series Versus Virgina
Duke owns a 59-15 lead in the all-time series against Virginia, including a 49-14 advantage in ACC contests. In last season's meeting, the Blue Devils were swept by the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Virginia. Prior to the 2024 matchup, Duke had won 12 straight contests. The series began in 1982, when the Blue Devils earned a 3-0 victory over Virginia inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
