BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 15 Duke men's tennis fell 4-3 to No. 10 California on Friday night at Hellman Tennis Complex, as the Golden Bears secured the decisive point at the fourth singles position. The Blue Devils fall to 15-6 overall and 8-3 in ACC matches, while Cal improves to 17-2 with an 8-2 mark in conference.
Duke started strong by clinching the doubles point. Graduate student

Pedro Rodenas posted a dominant 6-2 win at the top spot. On court three, graduate student
Remy Dugardin and junior
Gerard Planelles Ripoll followed with a 6-4 victory to secure the 1-0 lead for the Blue Devils.
In singles, No. 47 Rodenas picked up a ranked win at the top spot, and senior
Jake Krug battled through three sets for a victory on court six. However, Cal earned wins on courts two, three and five before Timofey Stepanov sealed the match for the Golden Bears in three sets at the No. 4 position.
How It Happened
- Duke earned the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead.
- On court one, Petrovic and Rodenas defeated the Golden Bears' Alex Chang and Carl Emil Overbeck, 6-2.
- The Blue Devils secured the doubles point on court three, as Dugardin and Planelles Ripoll broke a 3-3 tie and won three of the final four games to clinch a 6-4 victory over Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski and Mikey Wright.
- Senior Connor Krug and graduate student Theo Winegar's match on court two remained unfinished, with the Duke duo leading 5-4.
- California evened the match at 1-1 following a straight-set win on court three. No. 66 Chang edged Petrovic 6-4, 6-4, pulling away late in both sets to secure the point.
- The Golden Bears took the 2-1 lead as 45th-ranked Theo Dean posted a straight-set win over Dugardin. The first set was tied four times before it went to the decider, where Dean won 7-5. In set two, Dean pulled away from a 5-5 tie with two straight games to clinch the match.
- Cal earned the 3-1 lead with a two-set win at the fifth position over sophomore Alexander Visser. Derrick Chen rallied past a 2-2 tie to clinch the first set, 6-3. Set two was tied on three occasions before Chen won two straight games to break a 4-4 deadlock.
- Rodenas pulled Duke within one, 3-2, as he earned a comeback and upset win over 11th-ranked Overbeck. Overbeck earned the first set, 6-2, but Rodenas rallied back to clinch the next two. In set two, Rodenas secured the 6-2 victory. In the decisive third set, Rodenas won two of the final three games to clinch the match with a 6-3 triumph.
- Senior Jake Krug tied the match at 3-3 with a three-set victory on court six. Jake Krug rallied past a 3-3 tie in the first set, winning three of the last four games. In set two, Cal's Lechno-Wasiutynski earned the 6-3 win. In the third set, Jake Krug clinched his match, 6-4, winning two of his last three games.
- California earned the 4-3 win with a three-set victory on court four over Connor Krug. Connor Krug earned the first set, 7-6(1); however, Stepanov won the second set 6-2 and the third set 6-4 to clinch the match for the Golden Bears.
