Blue Devils Place Three in Top 20 at The Honors Course

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. – The Duke men's golf team placed three players inside the top 20 and closed with its best round of the week Tuesday to finish ninth overall at The Invitational at The Honors Course. The Blue Devils carded a three-round total of 885 (300-294-291, +21) in a field that featured eight nationally ranked programs.
Junior Bryan Kim led Duke and was one of three Blue Devils among the top 20 individuals with a tie for 15th place after firing a second-round 67 (-5) that tied for the third-lowest score of the tournament. Senior Ethan Evans tied for 19th on the leaderboard thanks to a 3-under 69 in the final round, while senior William Love joined him in 18th following a 2-under 70 on Tuesday that included an eagle on the par-5 17th.
Love and Kim both ranked among the event's best on par-four scoring, with Love placing fourth at 3.90 (-3) and Kim tied for eighth at 3.97 (-1). Evans finished with 37 total pars to tie for fifth in the field.
As a team, the Blue Devils improved their score each round, capped by a 291 (+3) on Tuesday – the fifth-best team tally of the final round. Head coach Bob Heintz's lineup of Evans (72-77-69=218), Love (76-72-70=218), Kim (75-67-75=217), sophomore John Hiller (81-79-77=237) and senior Daniel Choi (77-78-77=232) battled through a championship-caliber field that included No. 2 Virginia, No. 4 Auburn, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Tennessee and No. 22 Pepperdine.
Ole Miss won the event with a 10-under-par total team score (280-286-288=854), while Virginia and Auburn tied for second at 859 (-5).
Duke returns to action Sept. 29-30 at the Bryan Bros Collegiate, hosted by the University of South Carolina at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
