DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke women's soccer standout Ella Hase has been traded to the NC Courage and returns to the state of North Carolina after playing for Racing Louisville of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) the last year and a half.
Â
With the trade, Hase signed a contract extension with the NC Courage through the 2029 campaign.Â
Â
"When I was at Duke, North Carolina felt like home to me and I couldn't be more excited to come back to this state as a professional," said Hase. "From my first conversations with club leadership, I knew this was the right place for me to take the next step in my professional career."
Â
Hase has made 44 appearances across her first two seasons in the NWSL, recording two goal contributions, creating 27 chances, and winning 137 duels and 56 tackles. A versatile player, Hase has played multiple positions for Louisville along the left side.
Â
"Ella is a player familiar to North Carolina from her time at Duke and a player we have followed throughout her professional years in the NWSL," said Courage Chief Soccer Officer Ceri Bowley. "Her quality on the ball, her delivery from wide areas and her commitment on both sides of the ball make her a great fit for how we want to play, and we are delighted to welcome her to the Courage."
Â
Hase began her collegiate career at Northwestern, appearing in all 71 matches for the team from 2020-23. In 2024, Hase transferred to Duke, where she led the team to the semifinals of the NCAA College Cup with three goals and 13 assists across the season. Hase recorded four assists during the team's run to the semifinals, while earning All-ACC second team honors.Â
Â
The NC Courage will next host the San Diego Wave Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
