DURHAM, N.C. - Duke men's soccer hits the road to battle No. 1 SMU in a Saturday-night match. The Blue Devils will play their first match on the road since playing at NC State exactly one month prior, on Sept. 10. The trip to take on the Mustangs marks Duke's first time playing outside the state of North Carolina this year.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET, and fans can stream the match live on ACC Network Extra.
MATCHUP NOTES
- The Blue Devils and Mustangs meet for the 10th total time in the series, with Duke seeking its third total win, and first since 1996, over SMU.
- Saturday night will mark just the second time these two teams have met since SMU joined the ACC, with the two sides playing to a 2-2 draw in early October of 2024.
DUKE AGAINST NO. 1
- Saturday is Duke's second match against a top-ranked conference foe in the last three seasons, after drawing at No. 1 Stanford, 2-2, on Sept. 22, 2024.
- The Blue Devils last defeated a No. 1 squad when they knocked off No. 1 Wake Forest, 3-2, on Oct. 1, 2022 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
- That match was a top-five affair, as the fourth-ranked Blue Devils scored all three of their goals following halftime in the win.
LAST TIME OUT
- Duke closed its extended homestand with 3-3 record after shutting out Wofford, 3-0, on Tuesday night.
- The Blue Devils tallied their second clean sheet of the season, with freshman goalkeeper Max Deisenhofer registering his first collegiate shutout.
- Sol Arbib, Ethan Congleton and Jack Ottley were the goalscorers for Duke, as the freshman duo of Congleton and Ottley continued to match each other's pace atop the team leaderboard for goals scored.
FUELED BY FRESHMEN
- Ottley and Congleton lead Duke's with five goals each and are first and second on the team for total points, with 14 and 13, respectively.
- The young duo have been key in helping Duke work through an injury-plagued season, with the Blue Devils losing minutes from seven starters and a total of 10 expected contributors.
INJURED RESERVE NOTES
- The cumulative absences in Duke's XI adds up to over 5,440 cumulative minutes and more than 59 full games. Duke's backline was hit the hardest, with multiple anticipated returning starters, along with their subsequent replacements, missing from the XI at various points this season.
- Preston Zabinko has been sidelined all season, while Jamie Kabuusu made his 2026 debut against Queens, playing 79 minutes and tallying an assist, before exiting with an injury in the next match vs. Virginia Tech. Maxwell Simpson and Josh Poulson both picked up knocks during the preseason; Poulson has since made four starts; Simpson was forced out of his season debut, at NC State, after just 23 minutes, due to another injury.
- Thomas Vold has been healthy for just three matches, while Ian Hecker, who subsequently embraced a starting role on defense, missed the Georgetown and Wake Forest matches and exited the Howard match with another knock. Key striker Ulfur Bjornsson and Logan Moniz has been the key missing pieces in the offensive third, with Bjornsson missing Duke's last five matches and Moniz sitting out the three most recent matches after both picked up injuries in training.

- The Duke men's and women's soccer programs have partnered with Duke Children's to launch the Kicks for Kids initiative in support of Pets at Duke, an impactful service of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.
- Pets at Duke brings specially trained therapy dogs to patients receiving care in the hospital and clinics, providing comfort and companionship during their treatment.
