
Atas and Goulet Fall In Southern Intercollegiate Doubles Championship Match

ATHENS, G.A. - The Duke doubles duo of senior Joey Atas and junior David Goulet competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Doubles Championship match on Monday afternoon, falling to the host University of Georgia's team of John Isner and Luis Flores, 8-2, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Atas and Goulet, the tournament's No. 1-seeded doubles team, won five matches on their way to the final match, defeating the No. 6-seeded duo of Martin Stiegwart and Anze Cevka (GSU) in the quarerfinals on Sunday (8-3) to advance to the semifinals. The two then met the fifth-seeded duo of Matic Omerzel and Travis Hegleson (UGA) on Monday morning, and came away with an 8-4 win to earn a bid to the championship match.
Atas has now reached the championship match at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships two years in a row, as he teamed up with Jonathan Stokke to win the doubles competition last year.
Next up in fall competition for the Duke men's tennis team will be the Virginia Fall Invitational. Action runs from Friday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 16 at the University of Virginia's Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va. Draws will be released Thursday evening and will be available at www.GoDuke.com.
