
Blue Devils Cruise Past Clemson For 6-1 Victory

Durham, N.C. ? The No. 42 Duke men's tennis team won eight of the nine matches on Friday for a 6-1 victory over No. 61 Clemson at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
The Blue Devils improved to 8-12 for the season and evened up their ACC record at 5-5. With the loss the Tigers fall to 15-18 overall and 1-9 in league play.
Duke got off to a good start with wins in all three doubles contests. No. 50 David Goulet and Christopher Price clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Ike Belk and Rok Bizjak at the top doubles position. Reid Carleton and Kiril Dimitrov were the first to finish with an 8-6 victory against Carlos Alvarez and Kevin Fleck in the No. 2 slot. Dylan Arnould and Alex Stone sealed the sweep with an 8-3 win against Gera Boryachinskiy and Kevin Galloway in the No. 3 match.
The Blue Devils continued to pile up wins by taking four straight singles matches for a 5-0 lead in the match. Goulet, ranked No. 50 in singles, finished a quick match in the top spot with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alvarez. With the win Goulet picked up his 80th career singles victory and is now 7-3 in ACC play.
No. 62 Carleton finished close behind Goulet with an easy 6-3, 6-2 victory over Belk. Carleton has a team-best 23-9 record and is now 5-2 at the No. 2 spot and 7-3 in the ACC. Arnould earned his second victory over a ranked opponent this season with a 6-3, 6-3 win against No. 122 Gera Boryachinskiy. The win also clinched the match victory for Duke and gives Arnould a team-high three match-clinching wins. He is now 16-13 overall, 10-5 at the No. 4 spot and 6-3 in league play.
Freshman Alain Michel made it four straight singles wins when he downed Kevin Galloway 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles contest. Michel picked up his second ACC win of the year and eighth victory overall. After Stone lost in a third-set super tiebreaker, Dimitrov gave Duke a 6-1 win when he claimed a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Rok Bizjak at the No. 3 position. Dimitrov improved to 14-16 on the year, 4-2 at the No. 3 spot in the order and 4-6 in ACC play.
The Blue Devils will play their final match of the regular season on Sunday when they host No. 50 Georgia Tech at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Seniors David Goulet and Alex Stone will be honored prior to the match on Senior Day.
