
Carleton Continues Hot Start to Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Duke senior Reid Carleton won two doubles matches and one singles contest to remain undefeated in his final year as the Blue Devils opened play at the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
Carleton teamed with freshman Chris Mengel in doubles early in the day. The two players earned 8-5 and 8-4 victories to advance to the finals of the A-2 doubles bracket. Carleton and Mengel will take on Virginia's Philippe Oudshoorn and Justin Shane on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
Carleton, ranked No. 45 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, also cruised in his first singles match of the day, defeating Matt Hogan of Arkansas 6-1, 6-1. Next up Carleton will face No. 85 Joey Burkhardt of North Carolina at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
The rest of the Blue Devils did not fare as well as Carleton. The doubles team of Jared Pinsky and Fred Saba lost two matches, both by 8-5 finals. Saba also fell in his first singles match to Jesus Bandres of East Tennessee State 6-2, 7-6 (3). Mengel lost his first singles match to Andre Stenger of Nebraska 6-3, 6-4. Saba and Mengel will each play backdraw matches on Saturday while Pinsky will take on Connor Sherwood of Wake Forest in his first singles match after receiving a first round bye.
All matches are taking place at the Snyder Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Virginia. All matches are free to the public.
