How It Happened
- Williams and Petrovic clinched the first doubles victory for Duke on court one, jumping out to a 2-0 lead before Jameson Corsillo and Yu Zhang took a game. The Blue Devil pair then went on a three-game run, allowing the Fighting Irish just one more win before closing out the match 6-2.
- At the second spot in doubles play, Winegar and Connor Krug were in a back-and-forth battle with Sebastian Dominko and Noah Becker. The match evened out six times before it went to a deceive tie break. They clinched their match in tie break to claim the doubles point for Duke.
- In singles play, Petrovic extended Duke's lead to 2-0 on court two with a straight-set victory. In the first set, he pulled away from a 2-2 tie against Zhang and didn't drop another game, winning 6-2. In the second set, he once again broke a 1-1 tie and went on a five-game run to secure a 6-1 victory.
- Notre Dame responded with a win on court one, where No. 34 Dominko defeated No. 66 Williams 6-4, 7-5, making the score 2-1.
- On court four, Duke extended its lead to 3-1 with a two-set win from Dugardin against Corsillo. After trailing 3-1 in the first set, Dugardin fought back to tie it at 3-3. The match remained tight, with ties at 5-5 and 6-6, before Dugardin pulled ahead in the tiebreak, winning 7-3. He then dominated the second set, winning 6-0 to clinch his match.
- Jake Krug clinched the match for Duke with his straight set win on court six. Krug took a 5-1 lead in the first set, but Notre Dame's Kyran Magimay fought back with a three-game run. Krug responded with a decisive game win, taking the first set 6-4. In set two, he led 5-3, but Magimay rallied to take a 6-5 advantage. Krug forced a 6-6 tie, sending it to a tiebreak. He led 3-2 early and carried that momentum to a 7-4 tiebreak win, clinching the overall match for the Blue Devils.
Quotes
"It was it was a great team win against a tough Notre Dame's team. They're especially tough at their place, so leaving with the win feels really good. We had two new doubles teams that we put together this week. I thought we did a great job pulling out the doubles point."
"I thought Andreja did amazing. That was one of his best matches he's played all year. He played aggressive and absolutely dominated against a very good player at the at the two spot. I am especially proud of Jake. He's somebody that hasn't played much this year. He's put his head down and worked extremely hard. He always puts the team first and he played tremendous tonight to clinch the team win for us." – Head Coach
