CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Blue Devil volleyball team closed their four-match road swing with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) setback to Boston College Sunday afternoon inside Margot Connell Recreation Center. Duke falls to 5-14 overall, including a 2-6 mark in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 14-6 overall and 3-5 in ACC action.
Redshirt senior Ngozi Iloh, sophomore Taylor Williams and freshman Ashby Zubchevich logged six kills apiece, while freshman Charlotte Glass dished out a team-best 10 assists. Defensively, sophomore Mailinh Godschall posted a match-high 19 digs, while sophomore Breonna Goss and Iloh each tallied two denials at the net.
How It HappenedÂ
Set One – Duke 18, Boston College 25
- Boston College took the 25-18 win in the opening set to solidify an early match lead. The Eagles opened the frame with a 9-4 run to establish control. Duke responded by taking four of the next five points, backed by terminations from freshman Zoë Gillen-Malveaux and junior Lauren Ingram, to pull within two at 10-8. The Eagles halted Duke's momentum with a 10-4 spurt, building a commanding 20-12 advantage. The Blue Devils made a late push with a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-17. However, Boston College claimed four of the final five points to secure the set.
Set Two – Duke 20, Boston College 25Â
- The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 triumph in set two. Boston College held an 11-6 advantage before Duke went on a 5-3 run to cut its deficit, 14-11. The teams then traded four points before the Eagles went on a 5-2 push, extending their lead to 23-17. Williams logged two kills while Goss added one for Duke to earn three of the next four points, but an attack error by the Blue Devils gave Boston College its final point.
Set Three – Duke 19, Boston College 25Â
- The match was decided in Boston College's favor, as the Eagles posted a 25-19 victory in the final frame. The set was tied early at 6-6, but the Eagles pulled ahead with a 5-1 run. The teams traded points, with Boston College holding a 13-9 lead, before the Eagles claimed seven of the next 12 points to reach the red zone at 20-14. The Blue Devils put together a 4-2 run, but Boston College closed the match by taking three of the final four points.
